Philip E. Jarrell, 78, Mesa, Ariz., a former Webster City resident, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003 at Las Vegas, Nev. Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Graceland Cemetery with Rev. John Grebner officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Philip Edward Jarrell, son of Joseph and Bernice Betterton Jarrell, was born May 22, 1925 at Knoxville, Iowa. He received his education at Knoxville and Pleasantville. During W.W. II, he served with the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged with the rank of Fireman First Class. On June 15, 1946 he married LaVerle May Lewis and the couple resided at Newton where he was employed at Maytag for 14 years. They moved to Minneapolis in 1964 where he worked for Franklin Manufacturing. In 1968, they moved to Webster City where he continued to work with Franklin Manufacturing. After 24 years, he retired from Frigidaire in 1988 as director of quality control. LaVerle Harrell died Dec. 10., 1978. On May 4, 1980 he married Jacqueline Hosselton Jahnke at Webster City. The couple had resided in Arizona since 1990.

Mr. Jarrell is survived by his wife, Jacky; son, Michael Jarrell of Harlan; daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy Fisher of Webster City; Denice and Mike Fort of Columbia, Tenn.; Patrice and Steve Nicoson, Urbandale; Shirley and Clarke Carlson, Stratford; Trisha and Dan Nixon of Ankeny; Tanya and Mat McCarty of Gilbert, Ariz; 14 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Jon Leslie Jarrell in 1947 and his parents.

He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church at Webster City; and was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mesa.

Memorials may be given to Our Savior's Lutheran Church at Mesa or Sunshine Acres Children's Home, Mesa.
