Ralph W. Eckstein, 87, Ankeny, formerly of Webster City, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003 at the CLC Nursing Home in Polk City. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Foster Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Ward officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Ralph Watkins Eckstein, son of Nathaniel and Edna Watkins Eckstein, was born May 8, 1915 at Webster City. He was a graduate of Webster City High School and attended Webster City Junior College. On July 25, 1937 he married Neva Lorene Schweppe at Webster City. Mr. Eckstein was employed as a machinist for Beam Industries in Webster City. He also worked as a machinist in Compton, Calif., farmed southwest of Iowa Falls and as machinist for 18 years at General Filter in Ames, where he retired. Following his retirement, the couple moved to McAllen, Texas, where they had resided for over 23 years. In August of 2001, they moved to Ankeny.

In addition to his wife, Neva, he is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Marcia Kay and Fred Hartman, Kerrville, Texas; Monica Green of Ankeny, Muriel and Jim Scott of Eagen, Minn., son Ralph (Chuck) Eckstein of Sun City, Ariz.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Eckstein was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers. He attended the First United Methodist Church in Ankeny and was a member of the Elks Club of Webster City. Ralph was an avid lifelong golfer and especially enjoyed golfing during his retirement.
