Marie Mae Hagge was born to Charles and Clara (Steinshower) Herridge on October 8, 1908 in Beaver Township near Beaver, Iowa. Marie attended country school near Beaver and at age 16 graduated from Ogden High School in Ogden, Iowa. After receiving her teaching certificate Marie taught country school for several years in the Beaver area. On August 9, 1936, she was united in marriage to Wayne A. Hagge on her family's farm near Beaver. For several years following their marriage, Wayne and Marie lived in Iowa communities where Wayne managed grain elevators including Beaver, Calumet, Renwick and Webster City. Later in her life, while living in Webster City, Marie worked as an aid for Homemaker Health of Webster City, retiring in 1979.
Marie was a very active person throughout her life. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Eagle Grove, Iowa and Federated Womens Club in Webster City. She was an active member of various churches where they lived. As a member of Asbury Methodist Church in Webster City, She participated in Women's Guild and was a Bible study leader.
It seemed Marie was always busy with church or community organizations. Around her home she enjoyed cooking, sewing and crocheting. Her spare time was filled by reading and working on crossword puzzles. She and Wayne loved music and appreciated the musical talents of others.
In 1999, Marie became a resident of Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen before she was able to move to the Sioux Center Community Nursing Facility to be near her husband and daughter. Wayne preceded her in death on December 24, 2000 after 64 years of marriage.
