Elmer White, 82, formerly of 806 Burns Street in Stratford, Iowa passed away at the Boone County Hospital in Boone, Iowa on Saturday morning, November 30, 2002 due to respiratory complications. He had been a resident at the Stratford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stratford, Iowa since August of 1998.

He was born on April 18, 1920 in Gowrie, Iowa the son of John and Grace (Jenkins) White.

On November 21, 1947, he married Doris McAnally in Webster City, Iowa.

During his early childhood years he lived in the Webster City area.

Elmer was a veteran of World War II serving with the Army in Alaska as a heavy machine gunner. Following the war, he served in the National Guard Unit in Webster City.

The couple made their home in the Stanhope and Stratford area. For many years, Elmer farmed. For 18 years, he worked at the Central Iowa Co-Op Elevator in Stanhope before retiring in 1985.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Stratford where he was active in numerous church activities and held several offices throughout the years. For eight years, Elmer served on the Stratford City Council. He was a member of the Lion's Club while working in Stanhope and later in Stratford.

His parents, four brothers, and four sisters preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife Doris of Stratford, Iowa; one son Lynn White and his wife Joyce of Stratford; two daughters, Elaine Pearson and her husband Keley of Boone; Carolyn Genschmer and her husband Doug of Stockton, California; four grandchildren, Erin Pearson of Boone; Garrett Pearson of Boone; Heather Genschmer of San Francisco, California; Kimberly Vital Brasil and her husband Alvaro of Lorena, Brazil; one great-granddaughter, Isabella Vital Brasil of Lorena, Brazil; one sister, Viola Miller and her husband Dwayne of Clear Lake, Iowa; several nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Tuesday afternoon, December 3, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Stratford, Iowa with Rev. James Mead officiating.

Interment with presentation of the flag by the American Legion Fredrick Sonksen Post #576 of Stratford, Iowa was in the Oakwood Cemetery north of Stratford, Iowa.

Friends were able to call at the Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford on Monday evening from 7-9 p.m. and again Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. until noon when the casket was taken to the church where visitations continued from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.

The family was present at the Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford on Monday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. to greet friends.

The Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.
