Neil Sturtz, 80, formerly of Stratford, Iowa passed away at the Little Rock Veterans Administration Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas on Thursday evening, November 7, 2002 due to congestive heart failure.

He was born on May 14, 1922 in Cherry County, Nebraska, the son of Edward and Vera (Whalin) Sturtz.

On January 9, 1948 he married Patricia Myers at Des Moines, Iowa.

Neil was a 1940 graduate of Gilbert High School. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Marine Corp as a Crew Chief for the 611 Bomber Squadron. Neil farmed and raised livestock in the Boone and Stratford area. While living in Stratford, Neil and his wife owned and operated the Sturtz Supper Club before retiring in 1995 and moving to Hot Springs, Arkansas.

He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford, Iowa, American Legion Fredrick Sonksen Post #576 of Stratford and Boone VFW. While in business in Stratford, he was very active in the Stratford Chamber of Commerce. He was an avid fisher, hunter, and outdoorsman.

His parents, wife Patricia in June of 2002, three brothers, Edward, Eldon and Dale Sturtz, and one sister, Phyllis Smiley preceded him in death.

Survivors include one son, Lonnie Sturtz, of Greenfield, Iowa; two grandsons, Cory Sturtz and Clint Sturtz, both of Phoenix, Arizona; one brother, Loren Sturtz of Ankeny, Iowa; nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Thursday afternoon, at 1:00 p.m. at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford, Iowa, with Rev. Kent Kastler officiating.

Interment with full military honors conducted by Fredrick Sonksen Post #576 of Stratford will be in the Oakwood Cemetery north of Stratford, Iowa.

Friends may call at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

Memorials may be given to the American Legion Fredrick Sonksen Post #576 of Stratford, Iowa.

The Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
