Roy Karbula, 69, Webster City, died Sunday, July 28, 2002 at Hamilton Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with Rev. John Flaherty officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #191 of Webster City. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and after 9 a.m. at the church on Thursday. A scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Roy Francis Karbula, son of Charles and Catherine Pilko Karbula, was born January 29, 1933 at Sioux City. He graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1951. During the Korean War, he served with the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman, aboard the U.S.S. Rich. On January 20, 1955 he married Marie Hay at Portsmouth, Va. at the U.S. Naval Hospital Chapel. He received a BA degree from the State College of Iowa in 1959 and his Masters from the University of Northern Iowa in 1967. He had taught at Manning Junior High from 1959 to 1963, Webster City Junior High from 1963 to 1989, Iowa Central Community College from 1989 to his retirement in 1999. All classes were in Social Studies. He also taught drivers education for 17 years.

Mr. Karbula is survived by his wife, Marie; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Julie Karbula of Fort Collins, Colo.; Bill and Amy Karbula of Mesa, Ariz., daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Richard Mason; Korrine and Mark Nelson, Anne and Todd Nielsen, Mary and Kevin Williams, all of Webster City; grandchildren, Will and Thomas Mason, Zach, Hilary, Hannah and Zane Williams, Caitlin and Lauren Karbula; Courtney and Camille Karbula; Kelsey and Grace Nelson; Drew Nielsen; sisters, Theresa Saunders, Webster City; Rose Buckles, Katie Karbula, Agnes Flockhart, Josephine Shimkat and Ann Enburg, all of Fort Dodge; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Foster.

He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, the National Education Association and American Legion Post # 191.

Roy was a faithful husband, a loving father and grandfather, a true friend and a highly respected educator, who will be greatly missed.
