Clyde Culmer, 81, Webster City, died Friday, July 19, 2002 at the Hamilton Hospital. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Revs. John Grebner, Doug Tiffany and Gerald Caquelin officiating. Visitation will be at Foster Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Private committal services will be held at the French Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #553 of Woolstock.

Clyde Dell Culmer, son of Dallas and Ella Beshey Culmer, was born June 7, 1921 at Woolstock. At the age of 12 he started working at Jones Hardware in Woolstock. He graduated from Woolstock Public School in 1941. During W.W. II, he served with the US Army-radar artillery in the European Theatre. Following his discharge, he returned to Iowa and worked in the electrical and heating business. On January 20, 1946 he married Ione Susan Calkins at Webster City. The couple resided at Woolstock. In 1961, he started Culmer Electric which also included heating and plumbing. Ione Culmer died May 27, 1980. On Sept. 25, 1981 he married Mavis Dean Bohy Ratcliff at Las Vegas. The couple resided in Webster City. He retired in 1985. Mavis Culmer died June 18, 1994. On June 9, 1995 he married Gladys Laugerman Dyvig at Webster City. The couple resided in Webster City.

Mr. Culmer is survived by wife, Gladys; son, Steven Culmer and wife Donna, and their son, Jeff, all of Bradenton, Fla.; daughter, Nancy Whitaker and her husband, Steve of Ankeny and their sons, Tony of Urbandale and Tim of Ankeny, daughter, Susan Grove and her husband, Phil, and their family, Audrey and Jed, all of Van Meter, son, Daniel Culmer and his wife, Karen, and their family, Katrina, Breanna, Corissa and Collin, all of Cochabaina, Bolivia, step children, Dale and Pat Dyvig of Mason City, Jerry and Marj Dyvig of Dallas, Texas, Becky Liston of Spirit Lake, Lanette Politz of Honolulu, Hawaii, 8 step-grandchildren; 1 step-great-granddaughter; niece, Dora Kay Hanson, Boone.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters, and a brother.

He was a member of the Woolstock United Methodist Church, attended Trinity Lutheran Church, was a city council member at Woolstock for 22 years, a member of the American Legion Post #533 of Woolstock for 55 years, and a member of the Ban da la Roche Club.
