Marvin L. Wahlert, 90, Williams, died Sunday, July 7, 2002 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Tom Hunt to officiate. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #633 of Williams. Burial will be in the Williams Cemetery. Friends may call at the Surls Funeral Home in Williams Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.

Marvin Leonard Wahlert, son of Edward and Ida Jacobsen Wahlert [was born in 1911]. He attended rural schools near Exira and graduated from Exira High School. He was in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945. During his tour of duty, he served in the European Theatre of Operation and was awarded the Bronze Star. Marvin was united in marriage to Edna Kingsbury on Dec. 2, 1945 at her home in Nevada. He was a 50 year member of the American Legion Post #633 of Williams and a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Williams. He enjoyed the seasons of farming, especially harvest and was able to help out his son and grandson for many years.

He is survived by his daughter, Alice Bowden who had been living with him in Williams, a son, Wayne and wife Connie of Williams; grandson, Wade Wahlert of Williams; granddaughter, Holly and husband Mark Muench of Pilot Mound; great-granddaughter, Jayden Muench, two sisters, Ruby Heath, Exira, Ramona and husband Don Adair, Englewood, Colo, brother, Leonard and wife Irene Wahlert, Exira, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edna, son Bryan in 1955; brothers, Franklin, Dayle and Arnold, sister Florence Nelsen.
