Joan Rasmussen, age 76, of Jewell, died Thursday, June 9, 2005 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Visitation is from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2005 at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell.

Martha Joan Hovda was born August 18, 1928 in Ellsworth to Amos and Martha (Thompson) Hovda. She grew up in Ellsworth, graduating from Ellsworth High School in 1944. She graduated from cosmetology school in Des Moines the following year and worked as a beautician in Ames on Welch Avenue for several years. On May 30, 1953 Joan married Cleo Rasmussen in Albert Lea, Minnesota. They made their home in Jewell. Joan had a Beauty Shop in Ellsworth for 10 years, and then moved her shop to Jewell, retiring in 1994. Joan was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Joan is survived by her husband, Cleo of Jewell; a son, David (Lynn) Rasmussen of Jewell; a daughter, Jeri (Gene) Hanson of Jewell; two grandchildren, Sara and Sam; four step-grandchildren, Nicole, Devin, Taira and James; three step-great grandchildren, Brandon, Crimson and Elizabeth; and one sister, Alice (Leo) Olson of Radcliffe. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Robert, Harris, Donald and James; and three sisters, Maxine Pounds, Dolly Casto and Avis Stahl.
