Elsie Williams, 99, of Stratford, died Monday, May 23, 2005 at the Stratford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Stratford Lutheran Church, with Rev. Joe Lambert officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, north of Stratford. Visitation will be at the church two hours before the service. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.

Elsie Mathilda Angstrom, daughter of Jonas and Martha Johnson Angstrom, was born February 11, 1906 on a farm northeast of Stratford. She attended rural schools in that area and graduated from Stanhope High School. She attended Normal Training at Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. She taught in the Crane and White Elephant rural schools. On February 9, 1929 she married Howard Ellsworth Williams at Stratford. The couple farmed east of Stratford. In 1956, they moved to Stanhope where they owned and operated the Stanhope Locker. They retired in 1968 and continued to live at Stanhope. Mr. Williams died August 20, 1993. She had resided at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center since September of 1998. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Williams is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Jo Ann Williams of Stanhope; grandchildren, Thomas Williams of Boone; Terri Mortvedt of Brighton, CO; Julie Anderson of Alexandria, MN; 8 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; several step-great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Lloyd, Clarence and Harold Angstrom; sisters, Hazel Westrum and Irene Carlstedt.

She was a member of the Stratford Lutheran Church, a former member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church at Stanhope. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and fishing.
