Theodore (Ted) Amsden, 83, longtime Webster City businessman and former mayor, died Friday afternoon at the Hamilton County Hospital where he had been a patient for one week. He had been in failing health for several months.

Memorial services were held 2 p.m. today at the First Congregational Church with Rev. Ward Malloy officiating. Private graveside services were conducted at Graceland Cemetery, followed by Masonic services conducted by Acacia Lodge 176, A.F. and A.M.

Theodore Ross Amsden, son of Charles and Della Berry Amsden, was born Nov. 11, 1902 at Detroit, Mich. He moved with his parents to Des Moines where he attended school. After attending Drake University, he moved to Chicago where he was an accountant. He later moved to Webster City and became the business manager for Hanhe Printing.

He was married to Georgianna Hahne. The couple resided in Webster City. For several years he owned and operated the SuperValu stores in Webster City, Jefferson and Rockwell City. All three stores were later sold. Nov. 13, 1961 he married Marie Garth Buxton at Omaha. Prior to retirement in 1972, he operated Central Stationary for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; three daughters, Sally Sergio, Shreveport, La.; Julie (Mrs. Jerry) Mallow, Woodinville, Wash.; Jane (Mrs. Cole) Keirsey, Grand Lake, Colo.; and four grandsons.

He was preceded by a daughter who died in infancy, his parents, two brothers and one sister.

He was a member of Acacia Lodge, First Congregational Church, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine of Des Moines, Knights of Templar and Scottish Rites.
