John E. Nelson, 78, of Webster City, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2005 at his home. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2005 at 11:30am in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Rev. Timothy Geitz, Pastor St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiating. Friends may call after 10:00am on Saturday at the funeral home until the time of services.

Survivors include-his wife Lila, children-Robert J. and his wife Linda of Fort Dodge, Roxanne Amsbaugh and her husband Duane of Urbandale, Donald E. of Cedar Rapids, 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nels and Anna Patterson Nelson, an infant daughter Linda, and a brother Walter.

John Edward Nelson was born on September 12, 1926 in Otho. He attended rural schools there. Following his education he farmed with his family. In 1945 he enlisted with the U.S. Army serving until his honorable discharge in 1947 upon which John returned to the family farm. On October 17, 1948 he was united in marriage to Helen E. Anderson and the couple were later divorced. John worked as a farmer, a mechanic and as a welder for most of his life. On December 28, 1974 he was united in marriage to Lila Koestner and the couple established their home in rural Webster City. John enjoyed gardening, helping his neighbors and was a friend to all. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
