Loretta Gidel, 86, Webster City, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001 at Crestview Manor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic church with Rev. John Flaherty, celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Francis Cemetery in Rockwell City. A scripture service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, followed by a rosary service. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home Thursday from 5-9 p.m. and prior to the Mass on Friday.

Loretta Mae Brennan, daughter of James and Maude Miller Brennan, was born April 27, 1915 at Richards, Iowa. She received her education at Manson and attended college to receive her teaching certificate. On June 3, 1937 she married Harvey Gidel at Manson. The couple farmed in the Rockwell City and Jolley areas until 1955, when they moved to a farm near Williams where they farmed until 1978. They retired to Webster City in 1979. She taught in the Manson and Lizard Lake areas for several years and later was a substitute teacher in Jolley.

Mrs. Gidel is survived by her husband, Harvey; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Jo Ann Gidel of Williams, daughter Sherry Gidel of Des Moines; brother, Bernard Brennan of Rockwell City; sister Donna Lowry of Manson; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kent Gidel; brother, Donald Brennan; sister, Marie Kleemeier.

She was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and the Octo Card Club.
