Vivian Blake, 90, Diagonal, died Oct. 4, 2001 at Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Diagonal with burial in the Diagonal Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home in Diagonal after 10 a.m. Sunday with the family present from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Vivian Pratt, daughter of Clark and Effie Mae Masden Pratt, was born April 29, 1911 south of Delphos, Ia. She graduated from high school in 1929 in Delphos and from Aurora College in Aurora, Ill. in 1933. She married Hugh Schlapia on June 11, 1933 at Hickory Grove Church, south of Mount Ayr. He passed away on April 3, 1977. She taught school in Ringgold County from 1933-1935. She lived in Diagonal until 1980. She was also a homemaker and sold Avon for several years. She married Dwain Blake on Feb. 20, 1976 at McAllen, Texas. The couple moved to Webster City in 1980. Mr. Blake died on Oct. 14, 1994. Vivian returned to Diagonal in 1995. She was a member of the United Church of Diagonal, the Tuesday Club and Prisella Club, all of Diagonal.

Survivors are her sons and daughters-in-law, Alvin and Mary Ann Schlapia, Creston, Ronald and Roni Schlapia, Diagonal, Robert and Cindy Schlapia, Diagonal; daughter-in-law Rosemary Schlapia, Mount Ayr; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Mary and William Hill, Stanhope; step-daughter-in-law, Jeannette Blake, Webster City; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 11 step-great-grandchildren, 2 step-great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Homer Pratt of Groton, Conn., Robert and Marty Pratt of Corvalus, Ore., Donald and Maxine Pratt of Harrisburg, Ore.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and Norman Kleijch, Mount Ayr, Etta Mae and Don Wilson, West Des Moines, June and Ray Stephens, Des Moines, Helen and Lester Michelson, West Des Moines; sister-in-law, Dorothy Pratt of Mount Ayr, Marjorie Jessen, Creston, Wanda Lorenz, Dallas Center, June Schlapia, Stillman Valley, Ill., Patty Schlapia, Creston, brother-in-law Leroy Schlapia, Creston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son, Jerry Schlapia, Step-son, Dale Blake; two stepgrandchildren, her father-in-law Floyd Boyce, sisters-in-law, Viola Pratt, Von Pratt, Bonnie Pratt, Hazel Schlapia, Ruth Page and husband Harold, brothers Glen and Paul Pratt; brothers-in-law Bill Jessen, Ivan Price, John Lorenz, Francis Schlapia and Harry Schlapia.
