DeNelda James, 75, Dayton, a former Webster City resident died Thursday, August 23, 2001 at the Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton. Graveside services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Graceland Cemetery with Rev. Bill Kem officiating.

DeNelda Butler, daughter of Earle and Maplet Flaws Butler, was born July 7, 1926 at Webster City. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Webster City in 1944. She attended Cornell College and UNI. She did graduate work at Greeley, Colo., and the University of Houston. On July 18, 1950 she married David B. James at Houston, Texas. She taught at Houston, Colorado, Georgia, Maracaibo, Venezuela, Britt and Belmond. The couple was divorced. She moved to the Stratford Care Center in 1999 and later to Grandview.

She is survived by an aunt, Nita Hilpipre, a cousin, Iona Williams, both of Webster City, Joan Flaws of Huntington Beach, Calif., numerous other cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and cousin Violet Leaming.

DeNelda was a member of the First Baptist Church.
