Bert Barnes, 63, longtime resident of the Blairsburg community, died at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday at the Hamilton county hospital, following a short illness.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Congregational church in Blairsburg. The Rev. Chester Ham will officiate and burial will be in the Blairsburg cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the Foster funeral home until 10 a.m. Saturday when it will be taken to the church.

Bert Barnes, son of John and Anna Ray Barnes, was born Jan. 14, 1900 in McClean county, Ill. He was reared and educated near Colfax, Ill., in McClean county, and in 1927 he moved to the Webster City community where he engaged in farming.

He was united in marriage Feb. 25, 1929 to Nellie Ewing, and following their marriage the couple moved to Illinois where they farmed for two years in McClean county. They then returned to Iowa, farming in the Fort Dodge vicinity. For the past 20 years, they had farmed in Liberty township near Blairsburg.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter and one son: Mrs. Vernon (Anna Marie) Stumme of Waterloo, Leroy Barnes, Blairsburg; four grandchildren, Scott, Dennis and Karen Barnes; three brothers and two sisters, Dewey Barnes, Felton, Minn., Hartzell Barnes, Metamora, Ill., Floyd Barnes, Chenoa, Ill; Mrs. Ivan Burt, Brownsville, Texas and Mrs. Louis Paul, Bloomington, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers.

Mr. Barnes was a member of the Congregational church at Blairsburg.
