James (Jim) Foster, 84, Webster City, died Wednesday, February 16, 2001 at the Hamilton Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Revs. John Flaherty and Doug Bullock-Tiffany officiating. Private burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. A scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Foster Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.

James Rodney Foster, son of Arch and Evelyn Rodney Foster, was born Nov. 20, 1916 at Webster City. He attended Webster City schools and graduated from Lincoln High in Webster City in 1934. He graduated from ISU in Ames. During World War II, he worked as a civil aviation engineer for the U.S. Navy. On February 28, 1949, he married Kathleen (Peggy) Mertz at Webster City. He had been employed at Beam's in Webster City, Coat's Manufacturing in Fort Dodge and retired from Frigidaire in 1978. For 5 years, he worked as a self-employed consultant.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy; sons and daughter-in-law, Chris Foster, Minneapolis, Paul and Joyce Foster of Ankeny; daughters and sons-in-law, Caroline and Doug Shapter, Annapolis, Md., Karen and John Moenck of Washington; grandchildren, Don and Jennifer Feige, Nicholas Foster, Evelyn and Linnea Shapter and Andy Griggs; great-grandchildren, Max and Tate Feige.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Elizabeth Frances Foster, in infancy.

He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and the Webster City Rotary Club.
