November 8, 2019David Charles Clark, age 70, of Ellsworth, passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1629 Dewitt Street, Ellsworth, Iowa. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at the church. Burial will be in the Homewood Cemetery.
Born on August 5, 1949, Dave was the son of Robert and Dolorus (DeWald) Clark. He graduated from Vinton High School in 1968, and Ellsworth Community College with a degree in Business in 1971. Dave was united in marriage to Linda Gaarder on April 12, 1969, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City. Following his schooling, Dave worked for his father’s business as a salesman. He then worked in several grocery stores, including Dunn’s Super Valu and Steve’s Super Valu. Dave retired as a car salesman for Webster City Motors in 2014.
Dave was a sports fanatic and attended college on a football scholarship. His true love for sports was wrestling. Dave coached and was very involved in the HawkMat Club, even after his kids were out of school. He wrestled in the “Old Timers Tournament” prior to the Iowa Games. Family was very important to Dave. Having lost his parents at a young age, he was the patriarch of the family. Dave always made time for his grandchildren and even the neighbor kids who called him “Papa Dave”.
He was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Dave was a Deacon in the church and very involved in the Men’s Club. He was also a member of the Ellsworth Cooperative Telephone Association, where he was currently serving as board president. Dave was a past member of the Jaycee’s.
Dave is survived by his wife, Linda of Ellsworth; children: Mark Clark of Webster City, Chris (Maureen) Clark of Plymouth, WI, and Lori Yager of Ellsworth; grandchildren: Kassie Clark (Ezel Strong, III), Dalton (Amanda) Clark, Travis Clark, Michael Clark (Tori Harris), Justin (Leah) Mourlam, Casey Mourlam, Caity Clark, Daphne Clark (Nik Young) Skyler Backoff, Fiona Brown, Onika Brown, and Willow Yager; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Donna) Clark of San Antonio, TX and Jim (Paula) Clark of West Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law, Maynard and Esther Gaarder; a son-in-law, Scott “Chuck” Yager; and a brother Michael Clark.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Soderstrum-Reimers Funeral Home of Jewell and online condolences may be left for Dave’s family at www.adamssoderstrum.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family for future designation.
