H.J. Butler, 85, Webster City, a former longtime Blairsburg area resident, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the Hamilton County Hospital. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 29 at 10:30 a.m. at the Foster Funeral Home, Dr. Charles W. Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Blairsburg Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be after 8 a.m. Friday until service time.

Hector John Butler, son of John and Anna (Nelson) Butler, was born Aug. 8, 1905 on a farm northeast of Webster City. He was educated in rural schools, and graduated from Webster City High School. He farmed in the Blairsburg area. He married Mary Helen Cooper on Aug. 17, 1942. The couple farmed northwest of Blairsburg. Mrs. Butler preceded her husband in death on March 20, 1981. He continued to reside on the family farm until he moved to Southfield Care Center in June 1988.

He is survived by a son, Steven Butler, Blairsburg; a daughter, Carolyn (Mrs. Lyle) Hoversten, Williams; a stepson, LeRoy Barton; seven grandchildren, Doyle and Todd Butler; Kim, Kory and Jennifer Hoversten; and Sherri and Chet Barton; and a brother, Roy Butler, Webster City.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter-in-law, ReNee [Ranee] Barton; a grandson, Wade Barton; five brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Butler was a member of the Mulberry Center United Methodist Church, where he served in various offices, and was also a member of the Farm Bureau.
