Harold Manning, the son of Merril and Nellie (Horton) Manning, was born April 22, 1921 at Holmes, Iowa on the family farm. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, attending Holmes country school and graduating from Clarion High School in 1940.
Harold served in the United States Army, stationed on the Philippine Islands during W.W.II, from November of 1942 until his honorable discharge in February of 1946.
On April 7, 1946 Harold was united in marriage with Lois Marie Benton at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. The couple lived on a farm near Holmes for 4 years before moving to Webster City where they resided for 40 years and Harold worked for Webster City Products until his retirement in 1985, after 33 years. Then they lived in Eagle Grove for 6 years, Forest City for 7 years and returned to Eagle Grove in June of 2006.
Harold was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eagle Grove and the V.F.W. and American Legion Post #191 of Webster City.
Harold enjoyed fishing, traveling, camping and working in the yard.
Harold passed away on Monday, July 3, 2006 at Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove at the age of 85 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jerry Manning.
Survivors include his wife Lois Marie Manning of Eagle Grove; 4 children: Cassandra Nelsen and husband Max of Traer, Denny Manning and wife Terry of Bondurant, Gary Manning of Mason City and Lynn Manning of Forest City; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Betty Manning of Eagle Grove and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 6, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Eagle Grove. Burial in Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield. Memorials to the discretion of the family.
