Nadine Elizabeth (Brown) Downs, age 78, formerly of Aiken, SC, passed away on Tuesday, the 22nd of December 2015 in Houston, TX due to complications associated with Lewy Body Dementia.
Nadine was born on the 24th of August 1937 in Litchfield, MN. She was a 1955 graduate of East Chain High School in Fairmont, MN. Nadine earned an Associate Degree in Business at American Institute of Business in Des Moines, IA and after graduation worked in the Iowa Senate. She then returned to Fairmont, MN and worked for the Kramer law firm as a legal secretary. While working at the law firm, Nadine met her husband of fifty-two years, Jerry Downs.
Jerry's career moved them to many parts of the country. Along the way they raised three daughters and made many life-long friends. They retired in Aiken, SC where they lived for twenty-five years. Nadine was a longtime member of "The Friends of the Aiken County Historical Museum," volunteering her time and bookkeeping skills.
Nadine loved books, music, and crafts and was an avid card player. She especially enjoyed playing both contract and duplicate bridge in many clubs and with her and Jerry's numerous friends. Nadine and Jerry traveled extensively all over the world, but she favored Caribbean cruises for a relaxing vacation.
Nadine's generosity, smile, hugs and laughter will be truly missed.
Nadine was preceded in death by her husband; and parents, Reuben Leonard and Bernice Genevieve Brown. She is survived by her sister; three daughters; and three beloved grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held later this year in Webster City, Iowa, coinciding with placement of the memorial at Graceland Cemetery. Online condolences can be left on the Geo. H. Lewis memorial guest book at www.geohlewis.com. In lieu of usual remembrances, memorial contributions may be directed to the Lewy Body Dementia Association website at http://www.lbda.org/donate.
