MELVIN ANDERSON

STRATFORD - Melvin Anderson, 93, of Sioux Falls, S.D., formerly of Stratford, died Sunday, March 12, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford with Pastor Remigio Panlaqui and Gina Spohnheimer officiating. Burial will be in the South Marion Cemetery, Stratford. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.

Melvin Arthur Anderson, son of Wallace and Clara Carlson Anderson, was born on March 16, 1912 on a farm southeast of Stratford. He attended rural school and graduated from Stratford High School in 1929. On August 20, 1932, he married Lenora Angeline Bergeson at Princeton, Mo. The couple resided near Stratford, Iowa, and later started farming southeast of Burnside, Iowa. They bought a farm near Otho, Iowa. He had worked at Trinity Regional Medical Center from 1962 to 1981 in the surgery department as a medical technician. They retired in 1981. In 1989, they moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., returning to Stratford in 1994 and moving to Crestview Senior Living at Webster City in 1999. To be closer to their family, they returned to Sioux Falls in January of 2001. Mrs. Anderson died on Oct. 12, 2003. He had been residing at the Good Samaritan Village since October of 2004.

Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl Haacke; son, Curtis (Betty) Anderson, all of Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Janelle Anderson of Lamoni, Timothy Jones of Seattle, Wash., Kenneth Jones of Sioux Falls, Brenda Johnson of White Bear Lake, Minn., Blake Anderson of Keystone, Iowa; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Lenora, he was preceded in death by his son, Eugene LeRoy Anderson in 1940; his parents; five brothers; two sisters and son-in-law, Lauren Haacke.
