Obituary

SWANSON

Dora Hulda Louise, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles [Addie Hulda Peterson] Swanson of South Marion, Stratford, Iowa, was born August 8, 1905 and passed away at her parental home on August 13, 1913, at an age of 8 years and 5 days. For a period of six months she suffered from an attack of infinite paralysis which developed into tuberculosis of the spine, and rendered her practically helpless. The last few weeks of her existence she remained in a state of unconsciousness until her death.

Her parents did all they could for her recovery but in vain. During her sickness she received the most tender care from her dear ones, especially from her mother, and no pains were spared to grant her the slightest wish. Now her place in the home and Sunday school is empty; she is missed by a loving father and mother, two sisters and two brothers, a number of relatives and little friends. But there was a place in heaven awaiting her; perhaps the Master had need of her there and therefore he took her unto himself?

Little Dora bore the affliction with a remarkable patience for her age. She talked frequently about the world to come, especially before she lapsed into unconsciousness. Once she asked: "Mamma, can God see us down here?" And when the answer came in the affirmative, she said, "Then I will stay right by God all the time and watch you." When her mother expressed to her how hard it would be to part with her, she said: "You better come and go along then, mamma." Shortly before she became unconscious she said to her mother: "Don't leave me, mamma, stay right with me." And the mother never left her until death them parted. May the Lord comfort the bereaved family and grant them a special grace in their day of affliction.

The funeral service was held at the home, August 16th, 1913, the Rev. Pearson officiating. The address for the occasion was based upon the words in the book of Job 1:21.
