Mrs. C.A. Swanson

Mrs. C.A. Swanson passed away in the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Alden, at Ames, Iowa, Wednesday, April 12, 1950, at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 21 days.

Addie Peterson, daughter of the Rev. Peter and Anna Peterson, was born July 21, 1870, on a farm south of Stratford. She was united in marriage to C.A. Swanson March 20, 1891. To this union was born two sons and four daughters: Fred J., at Chillicothe, Mo., Carl E., at Garrison, Iowa, Mrs. George Alden (Anna) at Ames, Mrs. Arthur Leaf (Marie) of Stratford, Mrs. Robert Ruby (Linnea) Roswell, N.M. One daughter, Dora, preceded her in death August 13, 1913.

She was a member of the South Marion church for 25 years. In 1917 they moved to Stratford, where she later joined the Baptist church of which she was a faithful member. She organized the Philathea Sunday school class there and was their teacher for many years.

She suffered a stroke eight years ago, from which she never regained her health.

She is survived by her aged husband, the children, 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, a brother, J.L. Peterson, of Burt, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Strand, of Albuquerque, N.M.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at one o'clock in the Adams funeral home at Ames, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Bell, pastor of the Church of the Nazerene. At the close of this service, the remains were brought to Stratford where services were conducted in the local Baptist church, with the Rev. Arthur Westerhoff, officiating. A duet entitled, "He the Pearly Gates Will Open," by the Rev. and Mrs. Westerhoff and a solo, "Christ Our Helmsman," by Mrs. Westerhoff, furnished the vocal numbers for the services.

Following the services, the remains were escorted to the South Marion cemetery, where they were laid to rest. The pallbearers were: Paul and John Leaf, Raymond Swanson, Norman D. Erickson, Garnet Silvey and Donald Swanson.

A contribution of $112.00 was made to the memorial fund of the Baptist church.
