John Albert Strand, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Strand, was born Oct. 22, 1863, at Princeton, Ill., and passed away Sept. 9, 1949, at Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 16 days.

At the age of three years he came to Iowa with his parents and settled near Dayton, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. On May 25, 1892, he was united in marriage to Emma L. Peterson of Stratford. To this union three children were born: Gilbert of Richmond, Virginia, Lorena of Albuquerque, New Mexico, one child having passed away in infancy.

In May of 1903 Mr. Strand entered the furniture and undertaking business at Stratford and he followed this profession for 33 years, both in Stratford and at Boxholm. Retiring in 1941, he and Mrs. Strand had since made their home with their daughter and her family.

Mr. Strand was a faithful member of the Methodist church at Boxholm and was also a member of the Modern Woodman of America.

Surviving to mourn his passing are his wife, Emma, a daughter, Lorena (Mrs. Alvin Snyder) of Albuquerque, N.M., a son, Gilbert, of Richmond, Va., three granddaughters, Mrs. Guy Webb of Norfolk, Va., Marjorie and Shirley Snyder of Albuquerque, N.M., and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, and two sisters, Miss Ellen Strand and Mrs. Cordelia Lundberg.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Calvary United Methodist Church at Stratford, conducted by the Rev. A.G. Heddle and the Rev. O.E. Olson of Dexter. Songs for the services were sung by Mrs. Harold Angstrom, with Mrs. W.R. Holstrom as accompanist.

After the services, interment was made in South Marion Cemetery. The pallbearers were: Roy Barquist, T.G. Anderson, Franklin Rose, Rudy Gustafson, Lloyd Anderson and Emmett Peterson.
