Martha Jones was born December 5, 1847 in Ockelbo parish, Gestrikland, Sweden. She emigrated to Swede Bend in 1865 and united in marriage with Olof Jones of South Marion community on May 26, 1871. Her conversion took place in this community under the ministry of Wennersten. In 1888 she and her husband united with the M.E. church, and ever since she has been a faithful member of the same. On Sunday, December 24, being ready to start for church she was suddenly taken ill and after four days of suffering she passed away at her home at an age of 69 years, 23 days.

She was a true christian, ready to witness for her Master. She was a christian of fervent prayer; she led the family worship at home and in the house of God, where her seat seldom was empty, she often led in public prayer. Two weeks before she passed away she attended the morning service and led in prayer. She especially asked God to help her and her fellow christians to fight the good fight of faith. Her prayer is answered, she finished her God-given course, she kept the christian faith and her immortal spirit departed to receive the crown of righteousness from her Saviors hand.

She is deeply mourned by a loving husband, three sons and two daughters: Alfred of Madrid, Albert of South Marion, Arthur of Marquette, Nebr., Mrs. Thilda Norstrum of Pilot Mound, and Mrs. Leslie Johnson of South Marion; two sons-in-law and two daughters-in-law, one sister, Mrs. Anna Strandberg of Aurora, Nebr., ten grandchildren and a number of friends in the community. The Lord comfort them in the day of sorrow.

The funeral service was held Sunday from the church and conducted by the pastor who used as his text at the occasion 2 Tim. 4:7. The interment took place in the South Marion Cemetery.
