Kenneth O. Kelting, 79, Cedar Falls, a former Webster City resident, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001. Funeral services will be held Thursday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Falls with burial at the Williams Cemetery at 2 p.m. with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 191 of Webster City. A rosary service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday with a scripture service to follow at 7 p.m. at the Richardson Funeral home in Cedar Falls.

Kenneth Otto Kelting was the youngest of 10 children born to Otto F. and Elizabeth Kluck Kelting. He was born on May 9, 1922 in Downard, Minn. The family moved to Webster City in 1923. He graduated from Webster City High School in 1940 and enlisted in the Army in 1942 and received his commission in 1943. As a first lieutenant with the 7th Infantry, he was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery and a Purple Heart during the Leyte Philippines Invasion. He received a second Purple Heart in the Battle Okinawa where he was critically wounded.

Following his discharge in 1946, he married Marjorie Johnson in Webster City on Sept. 28, 1946. He worked as a Wayne Feed salesman for many years. Following his retirement, he worked part time at the post office in Cedar Falls.

Kenny is survived by his wife, Marjorie; sons K.O. Kelting and John Kelting and wife Nancy of Cedar Falls, and daughter Kelly, Clear Lake; one brother Art Kelting of Webster City, and three sisters Jeannette Costelow and Irene Kazee, California, and Pearl Miller, Jefferson. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Laurence and Alfred Kelting; three sisters, Adeline (in infancy), Evelyn Dyvad and Florence Elsen.
