Sarah Olson was born in Trojem, Norway, August 5, 1824. She was married to Ole Hanson, of the same city in December, 1844. In 1848 they came to America locating in Hudson, Wis. There they lived until 1862, when they moved to Milwaukee. Two years later they came to Hamilton county, where she lived until March 16, 1913, when she passed to the great beyond.

Grandma Hanson has fallen more than the common lot of suffering. She had been an invalid since in 1888. But she was always cheerful, sweet and kind. Her cheerfulness was an inspiration to others. Since December, 1912, she has suffered intensely. She leaves to mourn her loss her son, Ole Hanson and wife, of Stanhope, seven grand children and a host of friends for she was loved by all who knew her.

The burial service was held Wednesday p.m. from the South Marion church, conducted by Rev. Pearson and the remains laid to rest in the South Marion Cemetery.

Obituary

Mrs. Sarah Hanson departed to the world beyond on March 16, 1913, at the age of 88 years, seven months and eleven days. She was born in Troadjim, Norway, Aug. 5, 1824. She was united in marriage to Ole Hanson of the same city in December, 1844. In 1858 they emigrated to America and settled in Hudson, Wis. Four years later they moved to Milwaukee and two years later they came to Hamilton county, Iowa, where she resided until called home. Her husband died Jan. 21, 1906 in San Francisco. In 1868 she was taken sick and was confined to her bed, a great sufferer for about 38 years. The past few years she was able to walk with the aid of crutches. Her last sickness began the first of December, 1912, and until death came to release her, she suffered terrible agony both night and day with gangrene of the feet. In 1859 she united with the M.E. church in Wisconsin and after coming to Iowa was transferred to the M.E. church of South Marion of which she was a faithful member until death. Her faith in her Savior was something beautiful to see. No matter how she suffered she was so thankful that it was no worse and she eagerly looked for the time of her release, so that she could go home. She is mourned by one son, Mr. Olof Hanson, and wife of Stanhope, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many relatives and friends. May the Lord comfort them all. The burial took place from her home in Pleasant Valley then to the M.E. church at South Marion on Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. Nels Pearson officiating. The text was taken from Rev. 21-4 "Neither shall there be any more pain." Interment was made in the South Marion cemetery. Thy victory won, rest in peace.
