Stratford Courier
February 6, 1919

Litella Goldie Peterson was born at the farm home of her parents [Nels & Anna Sophia Lund Peterson], southeast of Stratford, March 4, 1895 and passed away at her home in Chicago, Sunday morning, January 26, 1919 at the age of 23 years, 10 months and 23 days. She was united in marriage to James Arthur Gould at Chicago August 7, 1916. To this union one child, a daughter, was born.

Deceased went to the Stratford public schools graduating with the class of 1914. Immediately afterward she went to Des Moines and entered Des Moines College there graduating from that institution in 1916. Shortly after her graduation she went to Chicago and has since lived there.

Deceased was an unusually sweet and pleasant young lady. She was possessed of a very bright mind and a jovial happy disposition and won a place in the hearts of all who knew her. Her untimely death brought intense sorrow and sadness to hose who had known her so well here.

For some time her health has not been the best and she has been under a physician's care. It is thought that when she arose Sunday morning to take her medicine that she mistakenly secured the wrong bottle and took the dreadful poison by mistake. The coroner's verdict was that she met death unintentionally and accidentally.

The sorrow and grief which comes to the parents and other relatives by so sudden and terrible a death cannot be estimated. The entire community is grief stricken that one so young and with such a promising life should pass into the great beyond.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband and little daughter, Dorothy Helen, 11 months old, her father, Nels L. Peterson, her step-mother, Mrs. Nels L. Peterson, one brother, Embert Peterson, besides many other sorrowing relatives and a host of friends.

The remains arrived from Chicago Wednesday last week and funeral services were held at 1:30 o'clock from the parental home by Rev. G.H. Dick of Stanhope. The remains were laid to rest in the family lot in South Marion Cemetery.
