S.M. FERLEN DIED IN KANSAS SUNDAY; REMAINS BURIED HERE.

Word was received here the first of this week that Swan M. Ferlen had passed away at his home in Salina, Kansas on Sunday. He had been ill for a long time. He was very well known here, having been a resident of this community a good many years ago and was a brother of Olof M. and Mons M. Ferlen, both of whom have died within the past twelve months. S.M. Ferlen was the last survivor of a large family.

The remains are expected to arrive here and funeral services will be held here Thursday. Interment is to be made in the South Marion cemetery.

Swan Ferlen was one of four children born to Mons M. Ferlen. He was born in Helsingland, Sweden, June 26, 1837. He came with his parents to America and settled at Victoria, Ills., in 1855. About 1857 they came to what is now Hamilton County, Iowa and located on a farm in the community south of Stratford. In 1867 he was united in marriage to Miss Carrie Erickson. Shortly afterwards he engaged in business with the late Senator Erickson at Mineral Ridge and after a few years the business was transferred to Boone where it was continued for a number of years. Deceased then retired from active business and with his wife went to Salina, Kansas, where he had since made his home. He, like all of his brothers, lived to an advanced old age and he passed away October 19, 1925 having reached the age of 88 years, 3 months, 13 days.

He was the last of his family to pass away. Mrs. Anna Shaeffer died several years ago. His brother, Olof M., died the first of this year, and his other brother, Mons M., passed away but a short time ago.

The remains were shipped to Stratford and funeral services were held from the M.E. Church here conducted by the pastor, Rev. C.H. Flesher. The remains were interred in South Marion Cemetery.
