Mrs. Hans Dixon passed away at the family residence here Monday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. Deceased has for many years been in poor health and for many months been afflicted with a cancerous growth on her chin and neck from which there was no relief and this was the direct cause of her death. She was one of the old pioneer settlers who had seen the history of this country in the making. She was nearly 74 years of age. The funeral services will be held this afternoon at 12:30 from the home and at one o'clock from the Baptist church. Rev. Nels Pearson in charge.

Obituary
DIXON

Martha Dixon was born Nov. 4, 1842 in Alfta parish, province of Helsingland, Sweden. She united in marriage with Hans Dixon of the same province in 1862 and emigrated to Bishop Hill, Illinois in 1865. The following year they moved to Swede Bend, Ia., and from there to Stratford in 1898. She passed away on November 13th, 1916, at the age of 74 years and 9 days.

For some years she was a member of the Swede Bend M.E. church, but later on she affiliated herself with the Free Mission church. From her own lips we have the testimony that she was a Christian. In common with humanity her life was, even when at its best, a life of labor and sorrow, as four children and her husband had preceded her to the great beyond, and she herself suffered considerable from an incurable disease during the later days of her pilgrimage. But her life also had its joys, especially so when she thought of the happiness awaiting the children of God in the world to come.

She is mourned by two sons, Henry and Albert of Stratford, one sister of Malmo, Minn., some distant relatives and a number of early acquaintances from early pioneer days. The Lord comfort them in the day of sorrow.

The funeral service was held from the Baptist church at Stratford last Thursday, Nov. 16th, the Rev. N. Pearson of South Marion in charge and the sermon for the occasion based upon Psalm 90:10. The interment took place in the South Marion cemetery.
