DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Peter Bergman, of Stratford Was Widely Known Farmer.

STRATFORD, Iowa, Feb. 1 - Peter Bergman, 76, widely known retired farmer, died at the Hamilton county hospital in Webster City last evening shortly before 8 o'clock.

He had been in poor health for many months. Death was caused by ailments incident to old age.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist church at Stratford, preceded by a brief service at the home at 1:30 o'clock. The Rev. A. E. Appelquist will officiate and burial will be made in the South Marion cemetery. Foster's, of Webster City, in charge.

Mr. Bergman was a former member of the Stratford town council and was always very active in community affairs. He was born in Sweden and came to the United States in 1882, settling on a farm near Stanhope.

He lived there until he retired from active farming several years ago, and moved to Stratford. He was married twice. His first wife died and he was married in October, 1920, to Mrs. Elvina Fredericks, of Stratford, who survives him. He also leaves a stepson, Peter Bergman, of Rhinelander, Wis.

A daughter and a son preceded him in death.
