Jo Ann Thurman, 65, Lehigh, died Sept. 11, 1998 at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City on Sept. 17 with Rev. John Grebner officiating. Burial was in Graceland Cemetery.

Jo Ann Thurman, the daughter of Vern and Alta Raven Thurman, was born in Iowa City on Jan. 20, 1933. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Webster City in 1951. She married Donald Heslop and was later divorced.

She spent two years with the U.S. Navy, serving in France, Washington D.C., Virginia and California. She returned to Webster City and worked for the Daily Freeman-Journal for several years. She later moved to Des Moines and worked for the Des Moines Register. She moved to Lehigh and spent several years working for CRL Components of Fort Dodge until the company moved. Prior to her death, she was most recently employed as administrative secretary for the Fort Dodge YMCA.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Vern and Alta Raven Thurman, and her brother Jim Thurman.

She was the former mayor of Lehigh, and was a member of board of Webster City Bowling Association, was president of the second district chapter of Credit Unions, board member of the Professional Secretaries International, and a member of the community service committee.
