GREENFIELD - Lester LaVern Elliott, Sr., 77 of Greenfield, died Tuesday, Sept. 29 at the Greenfield Manor in Greenfield. Funeral services were held at the Greenfield United Methodist Church on Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998. Rev. Robert D. Foster officiated and burial was in the Greenfield Cemetery. Military Graveside Rites were conducted by the Fontanelle American Legion Carlson Post No. 247. Steen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Lester LaVern Elliott was born June 20, 1921 to Henry Lester and Edith Bass Elliott in Dayton. He attended rural school near Stratford. On June 20, 1940, he married Helen Wepel in Webster City. In 1943, he worked for the light plant in Webster City. Most of his life he worked in the logging and sawmill business. He moved in 1973 to Henning, MN., and raised beef cattle. He started a used car business at the west edge of Greenfield in 1977, which he operated with his son, Lester Jr. In 1980, he moved to Fontanelle and operated a car business until he retired in 1983.
Survivors are his wife, Helen, Greenfield; a son, Lester Jr. of Creston; daughters and sons-in-law, Esther Ramsey of Greenfield, Patsy and John Ahnen of Greenfield, Janet and Del Kramersmeier of Prescott, AZ, Ginger and Dick Thompson of Greenfield and Judy and Jim Billingsley of Morenci, AZ; 27 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Ray Elliott of Cedar Rapids, Ronnie Elliott of Webster City; sisters Barb Hennigar of Clarion and Sharon Hoshall of Baltimore, MD.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harold, sister Helen and a granddaughter.
