Gerald McFarland, 87, Webster City, died Saturday, July 29, 2000 at his daughter's home in Blairsburg. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Missionary Alliance Church in Blairsburg with Pastor Bill Keller officiating. Burial will be at the Saratoga Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Gerald McFarland, the son of William and Cloe McFarland, was born on June 19, 1913 at Stanhope. He attended country school near Stanhope.
On June 26, 1938 he married Alta Mae Irons at Burt. Mr. McFarland farmed most of his life. He also had worked as a custodian for Iowa State University for nearly 10 years, retiring in 1976.
Survivors include: his wife Alta of Webster City; two sons and daughter-in-law, James and Andrea McFarland and Robert McFarland, all of Blairsburg; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judi and Melvin Katschke, Blairsburg and Shirley and John Wallace, Webster City; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Sarah James, Opal Shirholtz and Velma Colwell.
He was preceded in death by: one son, Larry McFarland; his parents; grandson Mike Katschke; and five brothers and 10 sisters.
Mr. McFarland was a member of Missionary Alliance Church in Blairsburg. Memorials may be sent to Alta McFarland in care of Judi Katschke, 412 Lake St., Blairsburg, 50034.
