Mrs. Clara A. Anderson, 98, a longtime resident of the Stratford area, died this morning at Crestview Manor where she had been residing for two years.

Funeral services will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the South Marion United Methodist Church, and with burial in the South Marion Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Foster Funeral Home until 9 a.m. on Monday when it will be taken to the church.

Clara Amanda Carlson, daughter of Christian and Marie Johanson Carlson, was born Feb. 6, 1875 in Marion Township near Stratford where she was reared and educated.

She attended the Highland Park College in Des Moines, and taught school several years in Marion and Webster Townships.

She was united in marriage June 16, 1897 to Wallace Andrew Anderson and the couple farmed in Marion Township and had always farmed in that vicinity.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1949, and in 1952 she moved into Stratford to make her home.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Floyd (Mildred) Erickson of Stanhope; and six sons, Vernon of Des Moines, Myron of Stanhope, Carl of Ames, Stanley of Shawnee Mission, Kan., Melvin of Otho, Iowa, and Herschel of Ames; 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Andrews; her parents; three brothers and three sisters.

She was a member of the South Marion United Methodist Church and was active in church and Farm Bureau.
