Kreg Klein, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Klein of Ames, formerly of this city, and a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Klein of this city, was fatally injured early Sunday morning in a car-truck accident on Highway 69 at Ames.

The U.S. Navy veteran reportedly was driving a car which hit the back of a truck carrying a race car. The racer was knocked loose from the top of the truck and rolled onto Klein's open convertible.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster Funeral Home in Webster City with the Rev. William Oberhuiser of Ames officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Kreg Dennis Klein, son of Keith and Betty Mitchell Klein, was born April 27, 1948 at Webster City. He received his elementary schooling at West Des Moines and completed his high school education at Ames.

He entered the U.S. Navy in 1966 and served on the submarine USS Pickerel. Following his discharge in 1969, he returned to his home in Ames.

He is survived by his parents; two sisters, Mrs. Mark (Kaye) Reimer and Mrs. Phillip (Karen) Winborn, both of Ames; a nephew, Matthew Winborn of Ames; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Klein of Webster City and Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Fowler of Rockwell City, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mr. Klein was a member of the First United Methodist church in Ames.
