Third Day of Blistering Heat Being Experienced Over State
Charles F. Huffman, 65, farmer living five miles southwest of this city, was overcome by heat while working in the field yesterday morning and died last evening. This is the first known heat fatality thus far this summer.
Mr. Huffman had been suffering from diabetes for some years, but was not ill when he went to work in the morning. However, it might have been a contributory factor. It was said that Mr. Huffman was always affected by extremely hot weather.
Mr. Huffman was born July 30, 1869 in Champaign county, Illinois. He was the youngest of ten children born to Mr. and Mrs. Henry Huffman. He moved with his family to Hamilton county in 1896 where he had resided ever since. Mr. Huffman was a member of the Webster City Church of Christ. He also was a member of the M.W.A. lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Huffman, and two daughters, Minnie Faye at home and Mrs. Blaine Woolsey, of Homer, and a grandson, Dean Woolsey. A son, Clyde T. Huffman preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Huffman home, Rev. Manson E. Miller officiating with burial in Graceland. McCauley-Chapman in charge.
