Illiff Bernsmeier, 80, Eagle Grove, died Dec. 21, 1999 at Hamilton Hospital. Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Foster Funeral Home with Leigh Banwell officiating. Interment will be at the Graceland Cemetery. Mr. Bernsmeier was cremated and there will be no visitation.

Illiff John Bernsmeier, son of Russell and Ramey Peterson Bernsmeier, was born on May 24, 1919 on a farm in Lyon Township. He graduated from Kamrar High School in 1937. On April 4, 1941 he married Clarice Hazel Clair at Ames. The couple then resided at Jewell, farmed near Randall and then moved to Webster City. In 1985, the couple moved to Eagle Grove. His main vocation was as a carpenter. Mrs. Bernsmeier died Sept. 2, 1999.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Vance and Anita Bernsmeier, Mark and Lynda Bernsmeier, all of Eagle Grove; granddaughter and her husband, Kim and Todd Wilson, grandson and his wife, Matt and Jill Bernsmeier, three great-grandchildren, a brother, Calvin Bernsmeier, Alleman and a sister, Hazel Clair of Eagle Grove, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah's Witnesses.
