Frank (Bash) Bashford, 74, a former Webster City resident and businessman, died Wed. Dec. 1, 1999 at Jerry Pettis Memorial Veteran's Medical Center in Loma Linda, CA. Memorial services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City with Cindi O'Brien officiating. Following his service, his ashes will be buried in the Graceland Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #191.

Francis E. Bashford, son of William and Maggie Bashford, was born July 16, 1925 in Webster City. He attended Webster City schools and graduated in 1943 from Lincoln High School, at which time he joined the Marines and served three years in World War II. Upon discharge, he returned to Webster City and attended junior college for one year. He was a member of the National Guard until he went to work full time for the American Legion Post 191 as manager and service officer, a position he held for 20 years.

He married Betty Lou Nissen at Webster City on Sept. 4, 1948. The couple continued to live in Webster City and in 1966, he opened Bash's Drive In and operated it until 1972. The couple moved to Whittier, CA in 1972 and he worked for the Whittier Police Dept. as a jailer. Upon retirement, the couple moved to Redlands, CA.

Survivors are his wife, Betty, sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Tim and Penny Bashford, Evanston, IL., Mike and Jill Bashford, most recently of Saudi Arabia, and after the first of the year will be stationed in Virginia, granddaughters, Lisa, Tamara, Morgan and Carson and grandsons Bryce, Matt and Michael, two sisters, Naomi Raven of Grand Rapids, MI., Laura Bashford of Liberty, MO., several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Jim, Mack, Bill, Eugene and LaVerne.

He was a member of the Methodist Church, the VFW, a former Elks member, the Whittier City Employees Association and a lifetime member of the American Legion.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to the Methodist Church or a memorial of their choice.
