Clarice Bernsmeier, 77, Eagle Grove, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999 at the Rotary Ann Center in Eagle Grove. Memorial graveside will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Graceland Cemetery with Leigh Banwell officiating. Mrs. Bernsmeier was cremated and there will be no visitation. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral Home.

Clarice Hazel Clair, daughter of Charles and Anna Stransky Clair, was born April 6, 1922 on a farm north of Jewell in Lyon Township. She attended a rural school north of Jewell. On April 14, 1941 she married Illiff John Bernsmeier at Ames. The couple resided at Jewell, farmed near Randall then moved to Webster City. In 1985, they moved to Eagle Grove.

She is survived by her husband, Illiff, Eagle Grove; sons and daughters-in-law, Vance and Anita Bernsmeier, Mark and Lynda Bernsmeier, all of Eagle Grove; granddaughter and her husband, Kim and Todd Wilson, grandson and wife Matt and Jill Bernsmeier, three great-grandchildren; brother, Elmer Clair of Webster City, sisters June Egland, Rochester, MN., Emma Rabe of Belle Plaine, Frances Broom of Jewell, several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Charles, Howard and Benjamin Clair, sisters Mabelle Staples, Lucille Hicks, Elizabeth Schleisman, Bertha Shillinglaw, Gladys Bernsmeier, Blanche Hage, Florence Hogan and Gertrude Clair.

She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah's Witnesses.
