Dorothy M. Strom, 80, Jewell, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999 at the Stratford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Stratford. Memorial services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell with Rev. Gerald F. Sawyer to officiate. Her body was deeded to the University of Iowa. Her cremains will be interred at the Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell at a later date. A memorial fund has been established and gifts may be sent to Dorothy Strom Memorial, PO Box 186, Jewell, IA 50130.

Dorothy Maxine Cmelik, daughter of Frank H. and Margaret Frerichs Cmelik, was born Dec. 17, 1918 in Grundy Center. She grew up in the Waverly and Shell Rock area, attending Waverly and Shell Rock schools. She married Charles Roger Strom on Dec. 12, 1942 in Maryville, MO. They worked together owning and operating several lockers and grocery stores. They moved to Jewell in 1967.

Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Carol Strom of Jewell, a daughter and son-in-law, Suzy and Stacy Weigel of Ames, two grandsons, Daniel Tesdall of Story City and Joshua Davis of Ames; three brothers LaRay Cmelik, Mapleton, Frank Cmelik of Marengo, Walter Cmelik of Cherokee.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1992, a granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Strom in 1993, a sister, LaVonne, and five brothers, Les, Bob, Virg, Winston and Paul.
