Evelyn Espeland, 99, Story City, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services have been tentatively set for 10 a.m. Friday at Bethany Manor Chapel in Story City with Chaplain Sandy Anenson officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Friends may call one hour prior to the services on Friday. Becker Funeral Home in Jewell is in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established and gifts may be sent to Priscilla Skare, 7305 Cassimin Place, Wilmington, NC. 28412.

Evelyn Halvorson was born Dec. 17, 1899 at Rose Grove, IA to John and Inger Halvorson. She grew up in the Rose Grove area. On March 1, 1922 Evelyn married Levi Espeland in Ringstad. They lived in the Ellsworth area from 1934 to 1948 and then moved to Jewell. She enjoyed gardening and church activities. She was a member of the Community Church of Kamrar. She resided at Bethany Manor for the past few years.

Survivors are her son, Lyle Espeland and a granddaughter, Priscilla Skare, both of Wilmington, NC., three grandsons, Byron Charles Espeland, Lakewood, CO., John David and Robert Wade Espeland, both of West Des Moines; a daughter-in-law, Helen Espeland of Jewell, a sister, Nora Mickelson of Cyrus, MN., and a brother, John Halvorson of Brooklyn Park, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Levi in 1971 and her son, Arthur in 1990.
