Vera Roland, 93, Iowa Falls, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999 at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services were held Sunday at the United Methodist Church in Alden with burial in the Alden Cemetery. Surls Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Vera Kurtz was born March 29, 1906 in Bellflower, IL., the daughter of Orlando and Nellie Mitchell Kurtz. She graduated from Webster City High School and was a 1930 graduate of Iowa State University. She married Lloyd Roland on April 16, 1933. She was a member of Chi Omega at ISU, Hardin County Home Economists, Farm Bureau Women of Alden Township, United Methodist Women, the Happy Hour Club at Alden and was a 4-H Leader.

Survivors are two daughters and a son-in-law, Mary Jo May of Denver, CO., and Becky and Bob Bryant of Aurelia; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Marsha Roland of Alden; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd, daughter Nancy, one grandson, four brothers and one sister.
