Charles Henry Van Sickle, 91, Webster City, died Friday, Aug. 27, 1999 at Southfield Care Center. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at Asbury United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Morgan officiating. Burial was at Graceland Cemetery.

Charles Henry Van Sickle, the son of Charles Oliver and Alta Ursula Kleckler Van Sickle, was born Aug. 7, 1908 at McConnell, IL. He moved with his family to Webster City in 1919. He attended country schools in the rural Webster City area. Mr. Van Sickle served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was discharged in November 1945.

For several years, he worked as a hired man for many local farmers. Mr. Van Sickle worked for the Hart Carter Company for 25 years, until its closing, and then did custodial work for the Webster City Community School District, from which he retired in the early 1970s.

Survivors include: three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Allen and Ethel Mae Van Sickle of Woolstock, Leslie and Claudine Van Sickle of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Kenneth Van Sickle of Fort Dodge; two sisters, Beulah Nail of Webster City and Ursula and brother-in-law LeRoy Bamman of Spring Valley, Wisc.; foster son, Gary G. and Linda Besaw of Webster City; two foster grandchildren, Gary Besaw Jr and Teri Laughlin; three foster great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leland, Glen and Lester. Mr. Van Sickle was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the American Legion.
