James R. Heidick, 76, Webster City, died Sunday, August 8, 1999 at the Hamilton Hospital in Webster City. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Graceland Cemetery with Rev. Ray Artrip officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Foster Funeral Home. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #191.

James Russell Heidick, son of Harry and Nina Klein Heidick, was born March 25, 1923 at Webster City. He attended Woodleaf rural school south of Webster City. From February 1943 to November 1945, he served with the U.S. Army 294th Combat Engineers in the European Theater of Action. He received the European, African, Mid-Eastern Medal with four bronze stars, the Good Conduct Medal, and the W.W. II Victory Medal. Following his discharge, he returned to Webster City. He married Elsie Mae Whiteaker on Dec. 2, 1945. The couple farmed south of Webster City for six years. For a short time, he worked for Wilhelm Foundry. On March 25, 1988, he retired from Frigidaire after working there for 36 years.

Survivors are his wife, Elsie; daughter Phyllis Zamora and son James Heidick Jr., all of Webster City; granddaughter Lydia Zamora of Edinburg, TX, three great-grandsons; sisters Thelma Jensen, Webster City; Nina Batcheller of Denver, CO., Phyllis Nelson of Fort Dodge; brother Harry Heidick, Dolan Springs, AZ., several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Helen Jensen and Hester Bentley.

He was a former member of the American Legion Post #191 in Webster City.
