Ruby Thorson, 85, a resident of Bethany Manor in Story City, and a former Webster City resident, died Monday, July 12, 1999 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Radcliffe. Burial will be in the Radcliffe Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Boeke Funeral Home in Radcliffe.

Ruby Laureen Varland, daughter of Martin and Hattie Buland Varland, was born Nov. 16, 1913 on a farm north of Radcliffe. She graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1932. She married Delmar Thorson on March 1, 1933. The couple lived on a farm south of Radcliffe for 28 years and moved to Webster City in 1961. Her husband worked for the ASCS office of Hamilton County. She entered Crestview Manor in Webster City on Nov. 16, 1994, and moved to Bethany Manor in Story City in July of 1996.

Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Fred Stewart of Waterloo, two grandchildren, Kristin Stewart of Ann Arbor, MI., and Steven Stewart of Raleigh, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters - Burnice Varland, Hazel Auestad and Berdine Severson.
