Mary E. East, 96, Webster City, died Saturday, June 19, 1999 at Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Foster Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth Wepel, daughter of John and Ada Olsen Wepel, was born March 12, 1903 in Hamilton County., She attended Webster City schools and taught in area rural schools. In 1923 she married Leon Johnson and the couple farmed in Hamilton County. Mr. Johnson died in 1931. On Feb. 28, 1937 she married Marvin R. East at Kamrar. The couple farmed northeast of Stanhope. They moved to Webster City in 1967. Mr. East died April 14, 1985.

Survivors are step-son, Bill East, Stanhope; grandchildren, Duane Johnson of Carlisle, Bruce Johnson of Plano, TX., and Marianne Benson of Shoreview, MN., step-grandchildren, Terry Dickerson of Waukee, Donna Weigel of Story City, Diana East of Stanhope, Danny East of Duluth, MN., Daryl East of Jefferson; several great-grandchildren.
