Rev. Thomas P. Hungerford, 53, Stratford, died at his home on Wednesday, May 5, 1999. Services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Stratford Lutheran Church in Stratford, with Bishop Curtis Miller and Pastors John Grebner, Lowell Halverson, Bruce Johnston and David Abram officiating. Burial will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Bronswood Cemetery in Hinsdale, IL with Pastor Norman Nelson officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford with the family present during those hours. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 10 to noon at the funeral home and prior to the service at the church. The presentation of the flag will be made by American Legion Fredrick Sonksen Post #576 of Stratford.

Thomas P. Hungerford, son of Thomas W. and Norma Olson Hungerford, was born Sept. 12, 1945 in Melbourne, FL. He was a graduate of Hinsdale High School in Hinsdale, IL. He received his BA in Ancient and Medieval History from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI., and his Masters in NDEA Fellowship in Ancient History. In 1969, he joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed with the Sixth Fleet in Naples, Italy until his discharge in 1974.

From 1982 to 1987 he studied at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, IL. He was ordained into the Lutheran Church of America in June of 1987 and was installed as pastor at St. John's in rural Hampton, IA. He was currently serving as pastor of the Stratford Lutheran Church in Stratford where he was installed in June of 1993.

He was a member of Stratford Lutheran Church, American Legion Fredrick Sonksen Post #576, American Farm Bureau, Smithsonian Institute and the Archaelogical Institute of America.

Survivors are his mother, Norma Rich of Burr Ridge, IL., a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Augustus Lonardi of LeGrange, IL., four nephews, Jason, Adam, Joshua and Noah Lonardi, LeGrange, IL. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and one great aunt.

Memorials may be given to the Stratford Lutheran Church, 812 Teneyck St., Stratford.
