Dorothy E. Johnston, 78, Webster City, died Thursday, April 15, 1999 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services were held Monday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Marshall Hoffman officiating. Burial was in the Graceland Cemetery. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral Home.

Dorothy Evelyn Bermann, daughter of Ewald and Lola Fritz Bermann, was born March 22, 1921 at West Union. She was educated at West Union and Webster City, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1939. She was employed by the Super Maid Café and the Draft Board. On June 15, 1941 she married Jean G. Johnston at Webster City. The couple resided in Webster City, where she was a homemaker and her husband worked for the U.S. Postal Service. Mr. Johnston died on March 1, 1979. She continued to reside in Webster City.

Survivors are sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Gloria Johnston, Webster City, Don and Donna Johnston, Longmont, CO., a daughter, Diane Johnston of Fort Dodge, grandchildren, Todd, Jarrod, Christopher, Jeffrey and Nicholas Johnston, sisters-in-law, Edna Bermann of West Des Moines and Virginia Bermann Leonard of Des Moines, and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Delwin Bermann and Donald Bermann.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, church circles, Women's Society, a Sunday school teacher for many years, a choir member, the Women's Trio and for many years played the piano at her church, also a member of the Webster City Women's Club Chorus, the Hamilton County Chorus and the Sit and Sew Club.
